Summary of Intervention

Comprehensive Risk Counseling Services (CRCS) is a client-centered HIV prevention activity with the fundamental goal of promoting the adoption and maintenance of HIV risk-reduction behaviors by clients with multiple, complex problems and risk-reduction needs. As a client-centered prevention activity, CRCS calls for multiple-sessions that provide a more detailed HIV risk-reduction counseling in order to help individuals initiate and maintain behavior change to prevent the acquisition of HIV while addressing competing needs which may make HIV prevention a lower priority. As a hybrid of HIV risk-reduction counseling and traditional case management for People Living With HIV (PLWH), CRCS provides intensive, on-going, individualized prevention counseling, support, and service brokerage. Priority for CRCS services should be given to persons at very high risk for acquiring HIV, and persons who are HIV seropositive. For those HIV seropositive persons, CRCS involves the coordination of primary and secondary prevention interventions and often involves close collaboration with Ryan White CARE Act (RWCA) case management providers. This further ensures that referrals to needed medical and psychosocial services, mental health and substance abuse treatment services, and the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases are made available to the client. he client develop goals, objectives and action steps. The whole of CRCS revolves around the important relationship between counselor and client in need of service.

The Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Interventions (DEBI) project was designed to bring science-based, community, group, and individual-level HIV prevention interventions to community-based service providers and state and local health departments.

The goal is to enhance the capacity to implement effective interventions at the state and local levels, to reduce the spread of HIV and STDs, and to promote healthy behaviors.
